Kass carves out great poker victory

Snowboarder Danny Kass has won the inaugural PartyPoker.net Big Throwdown Championship.

Kass defeated surfer Pat O'Connell, BMX legend Dennis McCoy, skateboarder Sergie Ventura, wakeboarder Josh Sanders, and FMXer Jeff Tilton to win the $30,000 purse.

Former World Surfing Tour veteran O'Connell was the first to be knocked out of the winner-take-all competition after working a short chip stack for 75 minutes.

McCoy battled a short stack early in the game and lost his final chips trying to double up after Ventura's all-in was called by Kass. McCoy and Ventura both had bad hands, and they were sent packing in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Sanders went all-in with just 7-10 suited, only to have his bluff called by Tilton, who took the wakeboarder’s chips and sent him out in third place.

This left Tilton with a slight chip lead as he went heads-up with Kass. The pair traded chips until the $2,000 and $4,000 blinds forced the action.

Tilton went all-in with an inside straight draw, but Kass called him with just a King high. The turn and river didn’t help the FMX star, and Kass was crowned the PartyPoker.net Big Throwdown Champion. Josh Sanders celebrated the win by pouring his drink on Kass' head as the Championship Belt and the oversized $30,000 check were presented.

The six qualifying events will be featured in 12-minute vignettes on FUSION TV airing from July through December, 2006, on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN). Each show will focus on one qualifying event and will include highlights, footage from the tables, and interviews with each of the six players.
